Engagement Session in Denver | Jessica and Ryan http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=339&Engagement-Session-in-Denver--Jessica-and-Ryan http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=339&Engagement-Session-in-Denver--Jessica-and-Ryan Mon, 26 Jul 2010 08:00:00 GMT twelve days away!) They both were looking super stylish and both of them have the best smiles. What a fun night doing what I do with such a fun and beautiful couple!

A few minutes in and it began to rain. We waited... waited... and finally I said, let's jump out and do some in the rain. WITH the umbrella (even if it did happen to break a few days prior). These turned out to be some of my favorite of the night!

Uh-oh...

WHOOSH!

After the rain stopped, we had some nice puddles to play with!

And then a little wardrobe change into something a bit more... dry.

Oh, yes - and their little addition. DUKE!

The we walked around the area a bit, enjoying the cooling effect of the rain and the stormy look of the skies.

Congratulations on your Engagement! :) See you in twelve days!

Wedding in Denver | Beth and Alex http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=338&Wedding-in-Denver--Beth-and-Alex http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=338&Wedding-in-Denver--Beth-and-Alex Thu, 22 Jul 2010 11:00:00 GMT style and at this last weekend's wedding in Denver, Beth was bringin' it! Check out the starfish sparkles on her dress.

Add in an awesome wave and Beth's vintage fashion look was stunning.

Beth and Alex opted for a 'first look' - such a sweet moment. I love it when my clients plan these!

Thanks to Shannon of Center Avenue Imaging for shooting this wedding with me. She took this next one.

Here's Beth with her Mother and Father.

Walli Richardson of Walli Richardson Events, along with her team, did a fantastic job with the outdoor Chuppah and all of the reception details. It was a beautiful event and Walli's experience paid off in being able to bring everything together!

Beth's father had a few words for both of them when he gave away his daughter's hand to Alex. I wish I could've heard what he said.... Errr, no I don't. I probably would've been crying through the rest of the ceremony. OR, laughing hysterically. (Beth's father has a wonderful sense of humor!)

Like I said, Walli did an incredible job with all of the reception details.

And the reception was filled with fun - like when they got Alex to pull off this dance number.

Or when they serenaded Lanie here - Too Funny!

Congratulations Beth and Alex. Have a wonderful honeymoon. It was a delight to be a part of your day!

Friday Fun http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=337&Friday-Fun http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=337&Friday-Fun Fri, 16 Jul 2010 12:00:00 GMT here, I was able to get my hands on Emily's and Rose's cameras and I found a few photos of me and the family having fun on our trip this summer.

A kind stranger shot this with our camera and I'm thankful to have it to remember this moment. (Funny side note: No, that is not a GI Joe toy down by our feet...)

And it looks like Emily took this one of me and the kids. If you've ever hiked to the delicate arch before you'll remember that the path is lined with these stone piles to mark the way. My children were really intrigued by this and wanted to build one of their own. Instead, we combined two smaller piles into a larger one.

In a bit of randomness I'd love to recommend everyone go and see 'Inception'! I haven't done a two-cent review since this last one in March when I ran down my top 10 films of 2009, but there's no better occasion than now, with the release of this brilliant film, to throw out my two-cents.

I read that Christopher Nolan spent 10 years writing this script and as with just about anything - when a creative talent invests that much effort into a work of art, undoubtedly this creation will be something spectacular. If you've seen the trailers then you know this film is about dreaming. In trying to say anything more than that, I am at a complete loss. My guess is that this will be the most complex and deeply intellectual film we'll see all year. And yet, isn't it weird to call what amounts to a sci-fi film about dreaming an 'intellectual' film!? And that's just it, this film takes us on a ride like nothing else I can recall since 'The Matrix'. Wholly inexplainable, and completely brilliant. I'll predict now that this will be my 2nd favorite film of the year when all is said and done. Why #2? Because I'm a big fan of everything Sofia Coppola does and I'm really looking forward to her next one, 'Somewhere'. My two cents: Stop reading this and go see 'Inception' now!

Finally, one more photo I took at the park last night. :)

Colorado Wedding Photography | Kara and Erich http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=336&Colorado-Wedding-Photography--Kara-and-Erich http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=336&Colorado-Wedding-Photography--Kara-and-Erich Thu, 15 Jul 2010 14:00:00 GMT Colorado Wedding at the lovely Cielo at Castle Pines. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, they tied the fly...er...knot on July 10th, 2010. This was a very special date as it's the anniversary of both Kara's and Erich's parents! That is beyond awesome!

(A big thanks to Shannon at Center Avenue Imaging for shooting this one with me.)

I put this one here just because it cracks me up. I'm not sure why. :)

I love it when my clients opt for a 'first look'! Seeing each other before the ceremony can still be a very special moment. And usually it relieves lots of 'time crunch' and stress that comes with doing things the old way. Not only that, but it usually means more time for awesome photos of the Bride and Groom as well!

Yes, it was raining. Yes, I was the only one whining about it. Not because I don't like it or I was worried about my gear. But because I wanted to make sure Kara was ok outside in the rain - with her dress and makeup, etc. I know some brides can be very particular about that - but not Kara. Here was her reaction!!

And then it was time to get married!

Kara changed her mind on florals six different times, and what she finally settled on was incredible, not to mention - partially edible!

Love their 'guest book'! They had friends write out their well wishes (I almost just typed fishes!) and tack them to this board with tied flies (Kara and Erich both love fly fishing).

Erich's a pretty darn good dancer and he was flipping ladies up in the air and in circles, head over heels, faster than you can imagine. But this time, I don't think she was ready to flip so she grabbed on tight. No flippity-flip!

Congrats Kara and Erich! Have a blast in Ireland! (*ugh* still jealous!)

Brittany and Jonas looked wonderful and are obviously so happy together. Jonas might have been overdosing on the 'happy' since he's from Germany and they had won their world cup game earlier in the day. (Good thing they weren't married 4 days later when Germany met Spain - sorry Jonas!!)

Doesn't this place look great? (If, like me, you're into the industrial brick and steel motif then you know what I'm talking about!)

Brittany and Jonas really wanted as many great photos in this urban environment as possible and we probably spent an hour after the wedding walking around taking some awesome photos around Mile High Station. I think I'll just finish this post showing off this beautiful couple in this Denver setting.

Congrats you two!!

Vacation to California with the Wilson Family! http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=333&Vacation-to-California-with-the-Wilson-Family! http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=333&Vacation-to-California-with-the-Wilson-Family! Tue, 06 Jul 2010 11:00:00 GMT family! To those of you who are disappointed by this I apologize - but wait no more, here's a quick look into the Wilson family's recent vacation to California (and Moab, and Vegas...).

We took off on a Sunday afternoon and made our first stop in Moab, Utah, hiking to the delicate arch. I didn't take any photos as Rose was shooting away with her camera. I let her do all the 'work' on this hike and maybe I'll get a chance to post some of what she captured.

Day two we stopped in Vegas. I wanted a place with no casino and where the kids could have some fun. So, the Four Seasons in Las Vegas was the place! Staying there we got to use the awesome pools (wave pool, lazy river) at Mandalay Bay and enjoy Five Star service with no casino interference. The kids were given stuffed ponies and a plate of candy with their name on it as well as their own set of bathroom supplies (chocolate shampoo!) and kid sized bathrobes to use. Pretty awesome!

On Day 3 we made it to grammy and gramps' house in California. I'm jealous of California photographers. The light is so much easier than Colorado!

And - tada! - here's Cefas! Can't believe I haven't posted any photos of him for months! He's walking now and it's like his whole personality is opening up. Love my little boy!!

And here's Philip - my big boy. Still the happiest little kid you'll ever meet. I have no idea what's in his hair.

Rose is an awesome piano player! Her teacher says she has some true God-given talent and I'm so happy she's exploring this and enjoying it. While we were there she did a little recital for us.

I LOVE this photo so much!

One day we went to visit our good friends the Aszterbaums who happen to live on a small farm of sorts. Rose loved helping with the chores which included feeding the Chickens, Goats, and Pig and collecting eggs. Here's the morning haul. (And it looks like there are a few baby carrots from the garden in there too!)

I was showing Joey Aszterbaum my new Canon 1DMKIV and, either accidentally or intentionally, he snapped this shot of me. It's the only one I've got of me until I check out Rose's photos and so... here it is. Wish I could've posed or something but this will have to do. No, I don't shave while on vacation. Didn't even take a razor. Of course, by the end my neck was really itching and so I did shave my neck... with Emily's razor.

Speaking of Emily... She would never in a million years let me post this - but she's still on vacation and I'm here working and so she can't stop me. And that's our dog Taylor who, without the love of Emily, would've been kicked out of the Wilson family a long time ago.

And oh how I love this last photo here. So much so that I took over Emily's facebook account last week and made it her new profile pic.

So, that's the Wilson family! I'll try and do better and let you in on our lives a little more in the coming months. :)

Engagement Photography at Denver Botanic Gardens | Brenda and Tony http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=332&Engagement-Photography-at-Denver-Botanic-Gardens--Brenda-and-Tony http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=332&Engagement-Photography-at-Denver-Botanic-Gardens--Brenda-and-Tony Thu, 01 Jul 2010 08:00:00 GMT

Brenda and Tony were up for any suggestion I had - like, pick her up and spin her around!

The Denver Botanic Gardens always has some sort of art/sculpture exhibit going on and the current exhibit is my favorite that I've seen there. The artist is Henry Moore. And I must thank him for creating this beautiful frame. (This blog post brought to you by the number 8.)

After a big storm front went around us (thank goodness!) the sun eventually peeked out and warmed things up. Love the golden hues...

If you marry someone who makes you smile you've made a good decision.

Brenda and Tony love New York. Well, it didn't work out to do our session there - but after the Botanic Gardens we did head over to Union Station in Denver for a few more photos and to get that urban-train-subway-New-York kinda look.

Congrats you two! What a beautiful evening and I can't wait for your wedding in the fall!

Engagement Session in Boulder | Rupa and Jay http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=331&Engagement-Session-in-Boulder--Rupa-and-Jay http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=331&Engagement-Session-in-Boulder--Rupa-and-Jay Tue, 29 Jun 2010 10:00:00 GMT Pictures." And then Rupa added, "We are fun and silly. Not so much the kissy stuff, just fun, you know?" And so we began.

I knew I could handle Jay's request, but Rupa's? Sometimes I encourage people throughout a session and help them show off their true selves in front of the camera - but in many ways, you kinda have to bring it... And so I was curious as to what might happen when we started our little photo shoot. Would it be fun and silly? Would they mind if we did just a few 'kissy' pics even though her Mom and Sister would be watching? Only one way to find out...

Well, right off the bat Rupa and Jay started laughing. And for most of the evening they never stopped! What a fun time!!

There was a bit of a breeze - but I love what that does with hair and flowy dresses (and saris).

They told me how much they loved Pearl Street and we had a blast walking the strip and the side streets and really getting that Boulder 'feel'.

And they rocked these designer hats.

They snuck in to the St. Julien for a little wardrobe change while I waited outside admiring this red motorcycle. When they came out and I saw her dress I said "You MATCH!" Love it. If only they could've got the keys and started cruising around (with Jay in the sidecar of course!).

What a beautiful couple.

While Mom was off resting somewhere we snuck in a few 'kissy' pics. :)

Again - "You MATCH!"

Congrats you two! It was a joy to photograph your smiles.

Stupid Human Tricks http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=328&Stupid-Human-Tricks http://wwww.jaredwilsonphotography.com/index.cfm?postID=328&Stupid-Human-Tricks Fri, 18 Jun 2010 09:00:00 GMT
Now, something you must know about my friend Jake. He beats me at just about everything. While rock climbing at the park, he went higher and faster than me. While lifting weights at the gym, he bench pressed more than me. While playing frisbee golf, he won, and his record against me in this event is probably somewhere near 100-0, and I know I got the zero part right.

Jake is a great competitor. He never flaunts his prowess in my face. And I enjoy losing to him even though it happens all the time. I'm fairly certain I can take a better photo than he can because, well, I'm a photographer. Jake is just a Jet Engine Scientist. That's all.

And I'm also pretty sure I can beat him at a few board games - another hobby of mine.

But it's always fun to try to think up new challenges for us to compete in. And this brings me to today's post. After being 'defeated' in the rock climbing skills test at El Dorado Canyon State Park I thought up something else for us to try.

"How about we both stick our heads under this freezing cold river and see who can stay under the longest?"

Mind you, this water was frigid-as-ice-freeze-your-brain-and-your-eyeballs COLD!!

So, here's a little video they were so kind to shoot of me acting like an ostrich in an attempt to best Jake at something.

(embeded object)

El Dorado Canyon State Park from Jared Wilson on Vimeo.

Mark me down as a stupid human, friends. :)

And did you HEAR!? That voice in the video is Jake's wife, Kara. And I'm calling her the official judge for our little contest!

Now, because a post is more fun with photos, here's one they took of me and my son, Philip, beside the river.

Great friendships don't come around too often and when you find one it's best to hold on to it! Well, the Wilsons and the Millers have been enjoying a great friendship for 9 years or so now and we are so thankful to have them in our lives. Last year we were able to visit them on Kara's parents farm in Iowa during Spring Break. I did a little portrait session with them then, and again just recently when they came to Colorado to visit us. With over a year between, look how much their daughter has grown!

I just love all of her different expressions!

Thanks for coming to visit us, Millers! Our kids loved having a 'sister' around the house. And we love having you as friends.

"Yes."
"Is that all you do?"
"Well, the only other thing I advertise for is Senior Pictures. I do family portraits, baby portraits, corporate events, etc. if people ask - but the only thing I promote is Weddings and Seniors."

The truth of it is that Weddings and Seniors are my favorite. And I can't tell you how pumped I am that summer is here and it's time again for Senior Pictures!

Seniors want to be artsy. Seniors want to be unique. They want to be themselves. They want to be expressive. They're willing to take risks. They're fun. And as a result - Senior Pictures are simply a blast!

Here's looking back to a few from last year. I tried to dig up an image of each that hadn't yet appeared on my site until now. Below their image is a slideshow from their session if you'd like to see more. (HINT: Stop a show before starting another or you'll get multiple soundtracks!)
